TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Once again, our food warrior judges took up arms—er, forks, knives and fingers—against the first of the Wabash Valley’s most voted for pizza restaurants.

By the end of last week’s battle for the top tenderloin— congratulations, again, Delish Café —our warriors spent a good time fasting, exercising and hibernating to prepare for this week.

Based on the number of votes, the crew mounted a News 10 horse—it was a Jeep, actually—and rode boldly down the road to Wise Pies Pizza and Subs.

The friendly staff and the owner, Zach Wise, met  Mike Latta and his crew of “Professional Eaters”.  Mr. Wise gave them a brief lesson about the restaurant’s infancy until now and finished off his timeline with a brief tour of the kitchen.

Once the crew became acquainted with the artists (chefs) behind the culinary artwork of the pizza pies Wise Pies is known for, they were ready to enter the flavor-filled battle that awaited them at their table.

Mr. Wise took a couple of the fan favorite flavored pizzas and prepped them for the crew to sample.

Initially, the crew didn’t know which way to approach the plethora of pizzas and flavors.  So, just like any great professional eater before them—we stress “professional” in a very loose sense—they just dug in.

Piece after delicious piece was devoured at an alarming rate, but what did the judges think after the last napkin was dropped?

“This was definitely my kind of pizza place,” Shelley, “Professional Eater”, said.  “The crust is thin…they have more varieties of pizzas: something that everybody is going to find and enjoy here.”

Wise Pies has a great selection of classic New York style pizzas: pepperoni, Italian sausage and cheese, but they also have some great healthy choices, too.

With the crews' hungry stomachs satisfied, would this be the clear winner? Or, is the New York style thin crust leaving room for the competition.

Whatever the case may be, you still have an opportunity to cast your vote for the best pizza in the Wabash Valley.  You may do so by clicking the link below and make sure you have a photo of the pizza you’re recommending, because that really helps a restaurant stand out from others.
